Dawley Christmas Lantern Parade

Dawley Bank Horticultural Society has worked closely with schools and community groups within the parish of Greater Dawley and surrounding locale over recent months organising Dawley Christmas Lantern parade

Dawley Christmas Lantern Parade on December 5th brought together the whole community and was heralded, as one of the biggest Christmas celebrations in Telford, a claim of which everyone involved is justly proud.

Springwell Pit Disaster

Dawley, December 6th 1872

 

The main industries in Dawley and surrounding locale at this time were Mining and Agriculture.
 

The workaday activity of the coal mine was pandemonium let loose, empty tubs in sets of six hurtling their way down the steep incline and full ones pushing their way to the shaft bottoms; men had to jump into holes dug deep underground to avoid being crushed to death. Overmen shouting and cursing hurrying tired bodies into even greater effort so that the precious coal could get to the surface and meet the demands of buyers. The quest for the black diamond overruled sanity, order and grace.

DBHS Show September 6th 2008

 

Dawley Bank Horticultural Show held at Dawley Baptist Church attracted record entries of notable high standard making Judges decisions difficult. DBHS first ever Highly Commended award went to Dawley C of E Primary School Gardening Club For their Giant Courgette exhibit.

The fruit and veg section proved exceptionally popular despite recent heavy rainstorms the rich quality of produce was unaffected. Read more »

2008 Third 1/4 Newsletter

Severn Hospice is fortunate to have an extensive team of volunteers working in most departments at the three sites Shrewsbury, Telford (Shropshire) and Newtown (Powys). Each volunteer is selected for his or her skills and life experience and together form an extremely valuable resource. They work closely with the patients; complementing the professional staff with time to focus on the relatives and visitors giving support and companionship when needed. All volunteers have access to training that is designed to enhance their own approach. We are also committed to the promotion and good practise of volunteering within the Hospice. Ward Area - General hostess duties offering support and companionship to patients and visitors. Helping at meal times and making beverages for patients or visitors when requested. Day Hospice - To give help, support and companionship to patients, visitors and staff including general hostess duties such as making refreshments for patients and also serving lunch. Taking part in activities such as trips and arts and craft sessions

Creative Therapy - Assisting the Creative Therapist with arts and crafts in the Day Hospice and many more besides.
