May Day - Wyldwoods Green Fayre

MAY DAY

Wyldwoods Green Fayre

DBHS were invited to share in the May Day celebrations of this annual charity fund raising event.

An eco friendly event encouraging green and alternative practices held in a tranquil Shropshire setting drenched in the woodland scent of springtime. DBHS members made willow woven chaplets adorned with fresh flowers and yards of rainbow ribbons.

It was a day filled with joy and warmth, the centre is founded on principles of equality and diversity and is run by a team of dedicated staff who work diligently to ensure sustainability and longevity of the centre.

Thank you Wyldwoods for this amazing oasis at the end of a winding dirt track that leads through a forest alive with birdsong echoing in the dawn of a new spring.

Allotments update March 29th

DBHS secretary met Director of International Community and Functional Skills Mr Dave Gill and two colleagues at Telford College of Arts and Technology to discuss the possibilty of the college becoming a partner member of Podmore Garden project.

Engaging diverse and extended community interest is relevant to longevity and sustainabilty of the programme. Mr Gill and colleagues spoke about the feasibilty of creating a 12mth college course combining all aspects of allotment managment; planning, planting, growing, harvesting, composting and science of horticulture. The course would enhance many similar schemes and processes already inplace within the national prospectus.

The idea of four allotments being managed by twelve students was also discussed, overall response was receptive and positive and is a valuable contribution towards completing the Local Food funding application process. DBHS thanks TCAT for the support shown in this initiative.

Allotments update March 18th 2010

DBHS Big Lottery Fund, Changing Spaces Local Food funding application bid took a step closer today when our allocated independent lottery advisors Sara and Chris visited Dawley Bank and met with DBHS members to offer help and advise with the Podmore Gardens allotment project.

Treasurer Carol Williams said, “It was an informative meeting with both advisors giving optimistic feedback. This was an idea that has evolved with the assistance and co-operation of Borough of Telford & Wrekin Officers and Councillors working with the local community. When DBHS first approached the local authority as the landowners seeking permission to change approx 2acres of scrubland in Dawley Bank into allotments their immediate response was positive.
